REVIEW USShazia Bashir, MD, MPH, FACOG is double board-certified in Gynecologic Oncology and Obstetrics & Gynecology, with extensive training in minimally invasive surgery and cutting-edge cancer treatments. She completed her residency training at Johns Hopkins University and her fellowship training at Columbia and Cornell Universities.
Dr. Bashir served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Florida in Gainesville and at the University of Massachusetts, where she trained residents and medical students. Committed to ongoing education and compassionate care, she integrates the latest surgical and medical innovations with a patient-centered approach to provide comprehensive treatment for women fighting cancer.
Dr. Shazia Bashir was born in Austin, Texas, and grew up moving around the world before finishing high school in Minnesota. She studied pre-med and journalism at Northwestern University, earned a Master of Public Health from Boston University, and completed medical school at Saint Louis University.
Her training took her from an internship in Phoenix to a residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Columbia and Cornell Universities in New York City.
Dr. Bashir spent her early career building a Gynecologic Oncology division in Jacksonville, Florida, where she served as the first Chair of Robotic Surgery at St. Vincent’s Southside. She later held academic appointments at the University of Florida and the University of Massachusetts, where she combined high-volume surgical practice with teaching, research, and national leadership roles. She has served on Society of Gynecologic Oncology committees, including the Wellness Committee and the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee.
Dr. Bashir’s passion for wellness began in medical school, when she turned to yoga to manage the stress of her training. In 2017, she completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training in Costa Rica, and her practice deepened through her travels, including extended stays in Bali, where she studied yoga and meditation. In 2024, she completed an additional 50-hour certification in Himalayan Kundalini and Bhakti yoga in Colombia.
She believes that true healing extends beyond medicine. Yoga, breathwork, strength training, nutrition, and mindfulness are integral to her approach, not only for her own balance but also as tools she shares with her patients. Her goal is to help women facing cancer not just survive, but thrive!
After years in large health systems, Dr. Bashir envisioned something different: a boutique private practice delivering the academic rigor of cutting-edge, evidence-based cancer care in a calm and serene environment, with her lifelong passion for wellness woven into every treatment plan. That vision became Whole Health Oncology, and the wellness at its heart became the THRIVE Program, so every patient has movement, breathwork, nutrition, and mindfulness built into her care from day one. Academic excellence, personalized medicine, and whole-person healing, together under one roof.
