A Cancer Survivorship Care Plan That Stays with You

Your Care Doesn't End When Treatment Does

Cancer follow-up treatment at Whole Health Oncology extends well beyond clinical monitoring. Our services are woven into your survivorship care from the very beginning, offering support for the parts of recovery that don’t show up on a scan.

That support includes our THRIVE program, which offers yoga classes, nutrition counseling, meditation, breathwork, and longevity lifestyle guidance, along with one-on-one conversations about sexual wellness and quality of life.

At Whole Health Oncology, Dr. Shazia Bashir and our care team are committed to walking beside you through every stage of your journey, including this one. Whether you're a few weeks out from surgery or several years into survivorship, our goal is to make sure you feel supported, informed, and never left to navigate the post-treatment landscape on your own.

Surveillance / Follow-Up

Whole-Person Oncology Services and Monitoring in One Place

What Our Cancer Surveillance and Follow-Up Program Includes

Our cancer surveillance program is designed to do two things at once: keep a careful clinical eye on your recovery and recurrence risk, and actively support your overall well-being as you move forward. Here's what that looks like in practice:

Ongoing Monitoring and Recurrence Surveillance

Regular follow-up visits are the foundation of any strong cancer follow-up care plan. At these visits, your provider will review how you're feeling, conduct a physical exam, and order any imaging or lab work needed to monitor for signs of recurrence. The frequency of these visits is tailored to your specific diagnosis and treatment history. If a cancer recurrence test or additional evaluation is ever needed, your care team will move quickly and communicate clearly so you always know where things stand.

Recurrence Workup

If a follow-up visit or test raises a concern, your provider will initiate a thorough and timely recurrence workup to determine what's going on. This may involve imaging, additional lab work, or referral to the appropriate specialists. Our biweekly Tumor Board Conference means that complex or concerning cases are never reviewed in isolation. A full multidisciplinary team is always available to weigh in when it matters most.

Whole-Person Wellness and Survivorship Support

Cancer follow-up treatment at Whole Health Oncology extends well beyond clinical monitoring. Our services are woven into your survivorship care from the very beginning, offering support for the parts of recovery that don't show up on a scan.

This includes our Thrive wellness services such as yoga, nutrition counseling, meditation, breathwork, and longevity lifestyle guidance, as well as one-on-one conversations about sexual wellness, energy, and quality of life.

Sexual Wellness After Treatment

Gynecologic cancer treatment can affect sexual health and intimacy in ways that are rarely talked about openly. Changes in sensation, comfort during intimacy, and shifts in how you relate to your body are all common experiences after surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy. At Whole Health Oncology, these conversations are welcomed, not avoided. Dr. Bashir draws on evidence-based guidance from the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH) to offer personalized, compassionate guidance to restore your confidence and comfort.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can help ease menopausal symptoms that may result from cancer treatment or risk-reducing surgery, such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and bone density loss. Because the safety and suitability of HRT depend on each woman’s individual health history and cancer type, Dr. Bashir takes the time to review your medical background with you and discuss whether HRT is an appropriate option. If it is, she will work with you to determine which type and formulation are safe for you to use.

Sexual Health and Wellness

Sexual health and wellness are an integral part of Dr. Bashir’s survivorship care. She recognizes that sexual well-being is an important component of a woman’s overall quality of life, and that surgery and cancer treatment can bring significant physical and emotional changes. Drawing on evidence-based guidance from the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH), she provides compassionate, individualized counseling and treatment to help women restore comfort, intimacy, and confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a cancer survivorship program?

Our Thrive program for survivors is a plan that outlines your post-treatment monitoring schedule, any ongoing medications or recommendations, potential long-term side effects to watch for, and the wellness and support resources available to you. It's designed to give you and your care team a clear, shared roadmap for the months and years ahead so that nothing important falls through the cracks.

During your treatment with Whole Health Oncology, you’ll have a one-on-one counseling discovery call with Meg, our wellness counselor. This is a one-hour interview to learn more about your history and needs. You’ll also have access to our one-on-one or group classes on yoga, meditation, and breathwork, as well as our healthy habits workshops on nutrition, exercise and wellness.

How often will I need follow-up visits after treatment?

The frequency of your follow-up visits depends on your diagnosis, the type of treatment you received, and how long it's been since you completed treatment. It’s very common for these visits to occur every three months for the first two years after treatment, then be spaced out to every six months for the next 3 years, then once a year for life after that.

What happens if my follow-up shows a sign of recurrence?

If a follow-up visit or recurrence test raises a concern, your provider will act quickly and communicate with you clearly every step of the way. A recurrence workup may involve additional imaging, lab work, or specialist referrals. Your case will also be brought to our biweekly Tumor Board Conference, where a multidisciplinary team reviews the findings together to determine the best path forward.
